Halloween Parking Restrictions

Halloween brings lots of extra visitors to Isla Vista and City staff has worked collaboratively with local residents and law enforcement to ease the impacts. In 2014 a temporary, resident-only parking program was implemented, and given the success of the previous two years, it will again be in effect for Halloween 2016. The parking restrictions are for the Goleta neighborhoods closest to Isla Vista: University 1 and University 2 neighborhoods, including the Cannon Green Condominium complex. The boundaries are: Cannon Green Drive to the west, Hollister Avenue to the north, Storke Road to the east and Whittier Drive to the south.

Two passes per household will be mailed before October 25. The parking permits are required to be taped to the inside of the vehicle’s driver’s side window during the restricted hours (see below). Signage will be posted on the streets in advance to remind drivers, and electronic message boards will be at several entrances to the University 1 and 2 neighborhoods. Vehicles not displaying the appropriate permit will be subject to ticketing and/or towing.  Parking restrictions are for Friday and Saturday nights, when most party-goers are expected to be in the area:

  • 7:00 pm Friday, October 28, 2016, to 7:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2016; and
  • 7:00 pm Saturday, October 29, 2016, to 7:00 am Sunday, October 30, 2016

The overnight parking restrictions will not affect AYSO soccer games or others visiting Girsh Park over Halloween weekend. If you live in the area designated to receive a parking permit, and do not receive yours by October 25, please contact the City of Goleta Neighborhood Services Department at 805-961-7558 to make arrangements for a replacement.

Goleta on the Ballot – What to Look for Locally

Goleta residents have some important decisions to make when they vote in the November 8, 2016, election. In addition to the national and regional measures, there are two City Council seats up for grabs. Also on the ballot is a measure asking voters how the Mayor of Goleta should be decided. Currently the five elected City Council members annually select among themselves who will be mayor. Measure C2016 asks voters to decide if they want to select the next Mayor of Goleta or continue having the council designate one of its members. Voters will also be asked to decide whether the directly elected mayor’s term shall be two or four years.

Be Part of Goleta’s Walking & Biking Future

It’s an exciting time for Goleta as we embark on our Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP).  It was great to hear from the 250 people who stopped by the booth at the Lemon Festival and Camino Real Farmers’ Market to provide input.  This plan will promote public health, reduce automobile usage and fuel consumption, and promote transportation equity.

If you missed us at the Lemon Festival and Farmers’ Market, we still want to hear from you!  Please Give us Five and take our survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/GoletaBPMP. You can also click here to sign up for updates or text GOLETA BIKEWALK to 468311.  Additional workshops will be held later this fall and in the spring of 2017.
