Greenhouse Leader Wanted at Deveraux
One of Goleta’s Dam Dinner traditions continued this year, with Devereux creating more than 50 beautiful succulent arrangements generously purchase by Fuel Depot and Point Market to decorate the tables at Lake Los Carneros.
This year, the Greenhouse Team at Devereux’s Greenhouse pre-vocational program spent more than six weeks preparing the succulents. Participants painted pots, built and painted wooden boxes, prepared soil, selected and planted the succulents, and added finishing touches such as ribbons, rocks, and other fun accents.
The completed arrangements were delivered to Stow House the Friday before the event, where they spent the night before making their way to the Dam Dinner at Lake Los Carneros on Saturday, August 15.
The arrangements added a beautiful touch to the tables as nearly 400 community members gathered for Goleta’s Dam Dinner. At the end of the evening, 50 lucky guests had the opportunity to take one of the arrangements home, giving them a lasting reminder of the evening.
This beloved community tradition began when City of Goleta Mayor Paula Perotte, who served on the Devereux Board for three years, visited the Devereux Greenhouse and saw the succulents being grown by program participants. She suggested bringing their work to the Dam Dinner, and the tradition has continued ever since.
