More than 120 local children now have USA-Mexico dual citizenship following a special ceremony at Goleta City Hall. Nearly 200 community members gathered on October 10, 2026, to celebrate this milestone, made possible through a partnership between the City of Goleta, the State of Guanajuato, and Club Migrante ADOVI to connect local families with dual citizenship services.
Mayor Paula Perotte joined Guanajuato Migrant Representative Yesenia Rojas Cervantes and Guanajuato Secretary of Government Jorge Daniel Jiménez Lona for the event. The ceremony highlighted the impact of collaboration between local government, representatives from Mexico, and community organizations in helping families navigate the process of obtaining dual citizenship.
For the children who received their USA-Mexico dual citizenship, the benefits extend far beyond receiving a new document. While retaining their U.S. citizenship, they can now access opportunities in both countries, including public healthcare services and higher education at Mexico’s public universities, as well as the ability to own property in Mexico and pass their Mexican citizenship on to their own children. Mexican citizenship also provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more than 150 countries and territories.
The event also marked a first for the City of Goleta! Mayor Perotte presented the City’s first-ever proclamation written in Spanish, recognizing Club Migrante ADOVI for its service to the community. She also helped distribute citizenship certificates and official City of Goleta pins to the recipients.
Thank you to Club Migrante ADOVI, the State of Guanajuato, 805UndocuFund, Cristino’s Bakery, Don Mayo’s, and all the local families who joined us at City Hall. Your efforts helped make the ceremony possible and brought an important service directly to local families.
