45th Anniversary of Historic Goleta Depot

The Goleta City Council recognized 45 years of local railroad history at its October 20 meeting with a proclamation honoring the South Coast Railroad Museum along with the volunteers, board members, and supporters who have helped preserve the Historic Goleta Depot.

The Goleta depot was relocated to 300 N. Los Carneros Road in 1981, where it remains an important part of Goleta’s history. To mark the anniversary, the South Coast Railroad Museum held a special community celebration on Saturday, October 24, inviting families to explore the museum and enjoy a day of railroad-themed activities. Visitors enjoyed miniature train rides, handcar rides, museum tours, model train displays, games, and food vendors.

Originally built in 1901, the Historic Goleta Depot is a reminder of the railroad’s role in the development and growth of the Goleta Valley. Its relocation to Los Carneros Road helped preserve the historic structure and establish a home for the South Coast Railroad Museum, where local railroad history continues to be shared with the public.

Thank you to the South Coast Railroad Museum and its dedicated volunteers, board members, and supporters whose efforts have kept the depot and its history accessible to the community for the past 45 years.
