SBCAG Celebrates 60 Years

Goleta Recognizes Six Decades of Regional Partnership

For 60 years, Santa Barbara County’s cities have worked together to tackle regional challenges, including transportation and infrastructure. On October 6, the Goleta City Council recognized that longstanding partnership by adopting a proclamation honoring the 60th anniversary of the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG).

Established in 1966 and formalized as an independent public agency in 1990, SBCAG brings together all five members of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors and representatives from Buellton, Carpinteria, Goleta, Guadalupe, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Solvang. SBCAG provides a forum for communities with different needs, priorities, and perspectives to work together on issues affecting the entire region.

Goleta became SBCAG’s eighth member city upon incorporation, joining a regional tradition of cooperation to address shared challenges and advance solutions that cross jurisdictional boundaries.

While the region has changed significantly over the past six decades, the principle behind SBCAG’s work remains the same: communities can accomplish more by working together to address shared needs.

This milestone highlights the continued importance of regional partnerships in addressing transportation, infrastructure, and other issues that affect residents throughout the county.
